Regie Suganob Confident for Comeback Fight Against Yohana in Bohol
Suganob Returns to Ring Against Tanzanian Yohana

After nearly a year away from competitive boxing, one-time world title challenger Regie Suganob expresses complete confidence heading into his crucial match against world-ranked Tanzanian fighter Mchanja Yohana. The main event of PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions' "Kumong Bol-anon 23" card takes place this Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the PMI Main Campus Gym in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Preparation Without Ring Rust

The native Boholano boxer revealed that despite his competitive hiatus, he maintained consistent training and sparring sessions with his PMI Boxing Stable teammates. Suganob holds an impressive 16-1 record with 6 knockouts, while his opponent Yohana brings a record of 21-6-1 with 15 knockouts to the ring.

"I've maintained my preparation for one year. I'm 100 percent ready but I won't be overconfident because my opponent is also rated," Suganob stated during the official weigh-in event where both fighters posed for photographs.

His manager, PMI Boxing Promotions head Atty. Floriezyl Echavez Podot, strongly dismissed concerns about potential ring rust affecting Suganob's performance. "Regie won't have any ring rust because he's maintained his training. There will be no rust issues for him," Podot emphasized.

Pathway Back to World Title Contention

This fight carries significant importance for Suganob's career trajectory, potentially serving as a gateway to another world title opportunity. The Filipino boxer currently holds notable rankings across multiple boxing organizations, positioned at No. 4 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO), No. 9 in the World Boxing Council (WBC), and No. 11 in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) light-flyweight division.

Podot explained the strategic reasoning behind matching Suganob with Yohana: "We followed the instructions of the WBO to let him fight a world-rated fighter." This bout represents a critical step in Suganob's journey back to the world championship stage.

Yohana Seeks Redemption in Philippine Return

Meanwhile, Tanzanian warrior Mchanja Yohana arrives in the Philippines determined to avenge his previous loss to another Filipino boxer. Yohana suffered a unanimous decision defeat against former world champion Milan Melindo during his first appearance in the Philippines back in 2023.

Through an interpreter, Yohana delivered a determined message: "We're ready. We're here to win. We're back here (Philippines) and we're taking it seriously. There's no room to run." His statement sets the stage for what promises to be an intense confrontation between two highly motivated fighters.

Undercard Highlights

The promotion features several compelling matchups beyond the main event. Leonard Pores III (8-0, 7 KOs) will face Cebu-based Japanese fighter Kiyoto Narukami (5-1-1, 2 KOs) for the vacant IBF Youth flyweight title.

Another significant bout pits Freshler Utrera (4-0, 2 KOs) against Sherwin Dacullo (4-1-1, 2 KOs) for the Philippine Youth minimumweight belt. The complete fight card includes additional matches featuring Virgel Vitor, Alven Vergara, Gerwin Asilo, Yeroge Gura, Jericho Acaylar, Francis Arante, Jick-Kier Autida, and John Paul Oyong.

As fight night approaches, boxing enthusiasts in Bohol and throughout the Philippines anticipate an evening of high-stakes competition that could reshape the landscape of the light-flyweight division and potentially launch Regie Suganob back into world championship contention.
