Regie Suganob Fights Feb 28 in Bohol, Aims for World No. 1 Ranking
Suganob Returns to Ring in Bohol, Targets World Top Spot

Former world title contender Regie "Filipino Phenom" Suganob is set for a crucial ring return that could redefine his career path. The Boholano fighter will headline the upcoming edition of the PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions series, "Kumong Bol-anon 24," on February 28, 2026, at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City.

A Stepping Stone Back to the World Stage

Promotion consultant Edito Villamor recently confirmed the main event booking. While the specific opponent for Suganob remains unnamed, PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions manager and promoter Atty. Floriezyl Echavez-Podot has made their intention clear. They are actively searching for a world-rated contender to face their homegrown star from Dauis, Bohol.

Podot explained that this strategic move is part of a calculated plan to elevate Suganob to the world No. 1 rank in the light flyweight division. Securing the top position would dramatically brighten his chances of earning a second opportunity to fight for a world championship.

Suganob's Road to Redemption

Regie Suganob, who holds a professional record of 17 wins, 1 loss, with 6 knockouts, first challenged for a world title on July 2, 2023. On that night, he fell short against South Africa's Sivenathi Nontshinga via unanimous decision in their bout for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) light flyweight crown.

Since that defeat, PMI has persistently worked to orchestrate another world title opportunity for their fighter. However, favorable circumstances did not align throughout 2024, delaying his return to the highest level of competition.

What's at Stake on February 28

The upcoming fight in Tagbilaran is more than just a homecoming event. A decisive victory for Suganob could serve as the catalyst for a major career leap. Promoters believe a win has the strong potential to boost his ranking to world No. 1, effectively kicking open the door for another coveted world title bout.

His momentum is already building. In the most recent World Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight divisional rankings, Suganob has already climbed from the No. 4 position to No. 3. The February 28th match is designed to be the final push he needs to reach the summit and secure another life-changing championship fight.
