Boholano boxing star Regie Suganob is set for a crucial showdown that could define his path back to a world championship. He will face World Boxing Association (WBA) No. 7 ranked contender Rodrigo Ramirez of Venezuela in the main event of "Kumong Bol-anon XXIV" on February 28, 2026.
A Stepping Stone to World Title Contention
Promoter Floriezyl Echavez Podot of PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions emphasized the high stakes for Suganob. The bout is a pivotal moment, with the outcome directly influencing his standing across multiple sanctioning bodies. "This is a very important fight for him," Podot told SunStar Cebu.
Podot outlined the specific goals: a win could make Suganob the mandatory challenger for the WBO, where he is currently rated No. 3. It would also help him break into the WBA's world ratings and position him for a world title eliminator in the WBC and IBF rankings, where he holds the No. 8 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
Clash of Styles and Records
The 28-year-old Suganob (17-1, 6 KOs) is coming off a dominant unanimous decision victory over Mchanja Yohana in November 2025. His opponent, the 33-year-old Ramirez (21-2-2, 13 KOs), is riding a two-fight win streak, having stopped Geraid Benites and outpointed Winston Orono.
Despite Ramirez's experience against fighters like former world title challenger Junior Zarate and Aaron dela Cruz, Podot believes the Venezuelan's style is perfect for Suganob. "He's a good fighter but his style is tailor-made for Regie," Podot stated confidently.
Pacquiao's Son Returns to the Ring
Adding to the event's appeal, Eman Bacosa Pacquiao, son of legend Manny Pacquiao, is also scheduled to fight. His opponent for the evening is still to be announced.
The 22-year-old Bacosa remains undefeated with a record of 7-0-1, including four knockouts. He last fought in October 2025, securing a convincing unanimous decision win over Nico Salado in Quezon City.
The ten-round main event and the undercard bouts will take place at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City. This event marks another significant chapter for Philippine boxing, as a local hero aims to solidify his claim for another shot at global glory.
