Davao's Free Youth Golf Program & Vietnam Tournament Plans

In a move to foster grassroots development in golf, South Pacific Davao Golf has unveiled a new initiative aimed at young children during a recent sports forum in Davao City. The program, coupled with plans for international competition, highlights the club's commitment to nurturing future talent and expanding its competitive reach.

South Pacific First Swing Program Details

Tommy Inigo, the golf director at South Pacific Davao Golf, introduced the South Pacific First Swing Program at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at The Annex of SM City Davao. This free training initiative is designed to spark interest in golf among children aged three to twelve, with the goal of developing them into future players.

The program will offer complimentary training sessions on specific dates in May 2026. According to Inigo, the sessions are scheduled for May 25, 27, and 29, from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., at the South Pacific Davao Driving Range. He emphasized that this effort is part of the club's vision to cultivate young golfers, stating, "That is what South Pacific wants for the children because they are our upcoming golfers."

Organizers anticipate that around 20 to 30 children will participate in these free sessions, providing a valuable opportunity for youth to learn the sport in a supportive environment.

Upcoming International Competition

In addition to the youth program, South Pacific Golf Club Davao is gearing up for international competition. The club is set to participate in the 20th Sta. Lucia Golf Tour in Da Nang, Vietnam, later this month. Inigo expressed confidence in the team's readiness, noting that they are in strong form ahead of their departure on April 22, 2026.

The tournament will run from April 22 to 26, 2026, and will involve competition with other teams affiliated with Sta. Lucia Realty, such as Rancho Palos Verdes, as well as clubs including Eagle Ridge, Caliraya Springs, Beverly Place, Pinewoods, Summit Point, Alta Vista, Royale Tagaytay, Lakewood, and defending champion Orchard.
