A 14-year-old boy died after his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. on the National Highway in Barangay Owak, Municipality of Asturias.
The victim was identified as Carl Anthony Atamosa, a resident of Barangay San Isidro, Asturias. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to severe head and body injuries.
Also injured in the incident were Ross Vic Cañete Jayme, 17, and his passengers Niño Jay Resurreccion Banguray, 15, and Roxette Jill Remedio, 13, all residents of Barangay Pondol, Balamban.
According to Police Captain Jessie Tañola, chief of the Asturias Police Station, the three minors from Balamban were heading to Poblacion, Asturias, to go fishing at sea when the accident occurred.
Investigation revealed that Atamosa was following them on his motorcycle and was speeding. Upon reaching the area, the victim attempted to overtake a truck. However, at that moment, a van was approaching from the opposite direction, forcing him to return to his lane.
As he returned to his lane, he lost control of the handlebars due to his high speed and collided with the motorcycle carrying the three minors.
Due to the impact, the victim was thrown from his motorcycle and landed on the road. He was not wearing a helmet, resulting in severe head and body injuries that caused his death.
The investigation also found that both the victim and the 17-year-old driver of the other motorcycle did not have driver's licenses.
The 17-year-old driver has been turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
