The vibrant city of Cebu in the Philippines is set to become the epicenter of global martial arts as it prepares to host the 6th Doce Pares World Arnis Championship from April 9 to 12, 2026. This prestigious event will take place at the City Mall Activity Center located on N. Bacalso Avenue, drawing attention from enthusiasts and competitors worldwide.
International Participation and Legacy Preservation
Organizers anticipate that over 300 arnisadors from at least 10 different countries will converge in Cebu to showcase their skills in this traditional Filipino martial art. The competition is not just about winning titles but also about honoring the rich heritage of Doce Pares. In an official statement, Arnulfo "Dong" Cuesta, the Supreme Grandmaster of Doce Pares Eskrima Academy and tournament head organizer, emphasized the event's significance.
"This is part of our determined effort to continue the legacy of Doce Pares and keep the spirit of its founding masters alive," Cuesta declared. He further explained that participants will represent various schools, clubs, or organizations from across the globe, including notable contingents from America, Europe, and Canada.
Support from Local Government and Pre-Event Activities
The championship has garnered strong support from the Cebu City government under the leadership of Mayor Nestor Archival, who views the event as a catalyst for boosting local tourism. Additionally, Cuesta expressed gratitude towards Cebu City Councilor Alvin Arcilla for his unwavering support in providing overall assistance for the competition.
Prior to the main tournament, a Grandmasters Training session is scheduled for April 8-9. Described by Cuesta as an advanced training opportunity, this session will allow arnisadors to learn directly from seasoned grandmasters, enhancing their techniques and understanding of the art.
