The Philippines is set to reclaim its spot on the Asian cycling map as it prepares to host a premier continental sporting event for the first time in over three decades. The 45th Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) Track Championships will unfold from March 25 to 31, 2026, at the state-of-the-art Tagaytay City CT Velodrome.
A Historic Return for Philippine Cycling
This marks a significant milestone, as the country last hosted the Asian track championships in 1995 at the now-demolished Amoranto Velodrome in Quezon City. Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and PhilCycling president Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino emphasized the importance of the event's return. "With at least 12 nations confirming their attendance and more than 200 athletes competing at the brand-new and International Cycling Union (UCI)-standard velodrome, the POC, PhilCycling, and Tagaytay City will be rolling out the red carpet," Tolentino stated, underscoring the commitment to excellent hosting.
Nations and Events Lineup
The championships have already garnered strong regional interest. Confirmed participating nations include:
- Japan
- South Korea
- China
- Malaysia
- Thailand
- Indonesia
- Hong Kong
- Chinese-Taipei
- Kazakhstan
- Uzbekistan
- Iran
- Philippines (host)
Japan enters as the defending powerhouse, having dominated the 2025 edition in Thailand with 16 out of 22 gold medals. The competition will feature a full slate of Olympic-caliber events for men and women, including sprint, keirin, team pursuit, and the Madison race.
Dual Championships and Full Support
Adding to the event's prestige, the 14th Asian Para Track Cycling Championships will be held simultaneously, fully supported by the Philippine Sports Commission under chairman Patrick "Patò" Gregorio. Tagaytay City Mayor Aizack Brent Tolentino has guaranteed the city's full support for the event, which is expected to draw international attention to the region.
The Tagaytay City CT Velodrome, inaugurated in June 2025 by Tolentino and Asian Cycling Confederation head Dato' Amarjit Singh Gill, is a cornerstone of this endeavor. It is recognized as Asia's newest indoor wooden velodrome and is poised to become a track cycling epicenter for Southeast Asia. The registration deadline for participating nations is set for January 15, 2026.
