McGregor's UFC 329 comeback ends in 69 seconds due to knee injury

Conor McGregor's highly anticipated return to the UFC Octagon lasted just 69 seconds, ending in a technical knockout loss to Max Holloway due to a sudden knee injury at UFC 329 in Las Vegas on Saturday, July 11, 2026.

Fight Stopped Early

Referee Mike Beltran halted the welterweight bout after McGregor grimaced in pain and collapsed, unable to continue. Holloway, who barely broke a sweat, was awarded the TKO victory. The fight was a rematch 13 years in the making, with McGregor having won their first encounter in 2013.

Holloway's Reaction

Holloway expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, stating in a post-fight interview, "It is what it is, I’m going to sit down with the UFC. So much hype for that right there. We’ve got to run it back one more time. One more time for the boys."

McGregor's Statement

McGregor, 37, who had not fought since July 2021, walked off the arena but later posted on X (formerly Twitter) to address the incident. He wrote, "My head gasket is gone. Destroyed. I had no injury/injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell."
