Naga City Prepares for Grand Opening of CVIRAA 2026 Regional Athletic Meet

The City of Naga in Cebu is set to become the epicenter of sports excitement as it hosts the 2026 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet from March 22 to 27. This week-long event, themed "United in Sports," will kick off with a spectacular opening ceremony on Sunday, March 22, at 3 p.m. at the Teodoro Mendiola Sr. Sports Field and Track.

High-Profile Attendance and Regional Participation

Top government officials, including Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, are expected to grace the occasion, alongside student-athletes from across Central Visayas. A total of 12 teams will compete, representing the provinces of Cebu and Bohol, as well as the cities of Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Tagbilaran City, Bogo City, Toledo City, Carcar City, Danao City, Talisay City, and the host City of Naga.

Multi-Venue Sports Events Across Cebu

While Naga serves as the primary host, the event will span multiple venues throughout Cebu to accommodate the 24 sports disciplines. The Cebu City Sports Center will host athletics, swimming, and badminton, while baseball games will take place at the Carcar City Sports Complex. Elementary football matches are scheduled at the Minglanilla Sports Oval.

Naga will manage the remaining sports, including basketball, volleyball, boxing, chess, gymnastics, taekwondo, and others, ensuring a diverse and action-packed schedule for participants and spectators alike.

Inclusivity Through Para Sports

In a move to promote inclusivity, the CVIRAA Meet will feature para sports such as bocce and goalball, providing athletes with disabilities an opportunity to compete and showcase their talents. This initiative underscores the event's commitment to unity and diversity in sports.

As Southern Cebu gears up for this major athletic gathering, the region anticipates a week filled with competitive spirit, community engagement, and celebration of sportsmanship.
