Subic Bay International Triathlon 2026 Set to Welcome Elite Athletes from Over 20 Nations
The prestigious Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) is gearing up for its 33rd edition on May 2 and 3, 2026, at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales. This landmark event, recognized as Southeast Asia's oldest and longest-running standard distance triathlon, will attract elite athletes from at least 20 countries, showcasing top-tier international competition in the Philippines.
Debut as Asia Triathlon Junior Cup Subic Bay
In a significant development, the 2026 SuBIT will debut as the Asia Triathlon Junior Cup Subic Bay, adding a new layer of importance to the competition. This designation highlights the event's growing stature within the global triathlon community and provides a platform for emerging junior talents to shine on an international stage.
The two-day competition will feature a variety of race formats, including draft-legal sprint races for Elite and Junior Elite athletes, Super Trikids, Youth Super Sprint, Sprint, and Standard distances. Critical World Triathlon and Asia Triathlon ranking points will be at stake, making this a pivotal event for athletes aiming to climb the global rankings and secure qualifications for major championships.
Strong Partnerships and Support
SuBIT continues to thrive due to the robust partnership between Triathlon Philippines, led by Tom Carrasco—who also serves as Asia Triathlon senior vice president—and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority under chair and administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño. This collaboration ensures the event's smooth execution and promotes the sport's development in the region.
The event enjoys substantial support from key organizations, including the Philippine Sports Commission, NTT, Gatorade, Western Guaranty Corp., C-Vitt, and Subic Bay Travelers Hotel. Their involvement underscores the triathlon's significance and contributes to its success as a premier sporting spectacle.
Past Champions and Technical Leadership
Reflecting on last year's achievements, Japan's Takuto Oshima and Manami Hayashi claimed victory with impressive times of 1:50:25 and 2:04:58, respectively. The top Filipino finishers, Dayshaun Ramos (1:54:03) and Raven Alcoseba (2:14:16), demonstrated strong performances, setting the stage for heightened competition in 2026.
Ensuring fair play and adherence to international standards, technical delegate Darnis Mahmud of Malaysia will return to lead the officiating team. His expertise and experience are crucial in maintaining the event's integrity and upholding the high-quality standards expected in such a prestigious competition.
As the countdown to May 2026 begins, the Subic Bay International Triathlon promises to deliver an exhilarating showcase of endurance, skill, and international camaraderie, solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of the Asian triathlon calendar.
