Alex Eala's campaign at the 2026 French Open came to an early end after she was defeated by Iva Jovic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday.

Jovic quickly took control of the first set, racing to a 5-1 lead. However, Eala fought back, winning three consecutive games to narrow the gap. But Jovic regained momentum and closed out the set.
In the second set, Eala struck first before Jovic won the next two games. Eala added another game, but Jovic pulled away, dominating the remainder of the match.

Jovic, currently ranked world No. 17 at just 18 years old, overpowered Eala, who recently celebrated her 21st birthday and sits at world No. 37.
Despite the singles exit, Eala will continue in the doubles tournament alongside Victoria Mboko at the clay-court Grand Slam.
