Davao's Golden Girls: Cousins Lead Archery Dominance
Young archers from Unit 7 have spectacularly conquered the secondary girls division of the Davao City Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet 2025. The tournament, held recently at the Davao Archery Club Inc. Range in Lanang Business Park, Davao City, saw the team amass an impressive total of six gold medals, eight silvers, and one bronze.
Spearheading this remarkable achievement were cousins Jasmine Jane Lim and Daphne Manuelle Uyking, whose combined efforts resulted in six gold and nine silver medals, securing their advancement to the prestigious Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet in 2026.
Jasmine Jane Lim's Breakthrough Performance
Jasmine Jane Lim, a 15-year-old Grade 9 student from Davao Christian High School (V. Mapa campus), emerged as a standout athlete during the competition held on Tuesday, November 18. She delivered an extraordinary performance, clinching three gold medals and four silver medals across various Fita distances.
Lim demonstrated her precision and skill by securing gold in the 30-meter, 50-meter, and 60-meter events. She added silver medals in the 70 meters, 1440 Round, Olympic Round, and the team event alongside her teammates.
Reflecting on her success, Lim shared her excitement about her first gold. "My first gold was in the 30 meters. I felt the most conditioned early in the morning, and I was so happy that my score reached 333, my personal best," she revealed. "The next two golds came from 50 and 60 meters. I was already a bit tired after shooting three distances, so I got silver in the last one, the 70 meters."
Having started archery at age 13 after an invitation from her cousin Daphne, Lim expressed surprise at her medal haul. "I've won three golds so far and I feel proud of that. I didn't really expect it, but I'm glad I have some gold medals," she said.
When asked about her choice of sport, Lim described archery as "interesting and unique," though she maintains her love for badminton. The sport runs in her family, with her sister and brother also competing. She dedicated her victories to her coaches, saying, "This is for my coaches, Coach Eli and Coach J. They took time to teach me, tune my bow, and help me with my form."
Family Success and Regional Aspirations
Lim's cousin, Daphne Manuelle Uyking, matched this excellence with her own impressive tally of three gold and five silver medals. Uyking dominated the 70 meters, 1440 Round, and Olympic Round, while securing silvers in the 30m, 50m, 60m, mixed team, and team events.
Their teammate, Qalessi Noelle Wee, contributed to Unit 7's medal count by adding a bronze medal in the Olympic Round.
With their outstanding performances, both cousins have now achieved their immediate goal of qualifying for the Davraa Meet 2026. Looking ahead, Lim aspires to progress even further, aiming for a slot in the Palarong Pambansa and, as she puts it, "hopefully a medal this time."
The success of these young archers not only highlights their personal dedication but also signals the strength of archery development in Davao City. Their journey from local competition to regional-level qualification serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes throughout the community.
