A 44-year-old man is now behind bars after suddenly stabbing a fellow reveler in the middle of a disco at Seaside Fatima, Barangay Tinaan, Naga City, around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2026. The suspect, identified as Ronald Cañete Alfeche, a resident of the same area, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crime.
Details of the Incident
According to the investigation by Police Master Sergeant Ariel Yap of the Naga City Police Station, the victim, Ivan Paul Campañon De Gracia, 34, from San Fernando town, attended the disco with his live-in partner as part of the fiesta celebration. While they were enjoying dancing, the suspect, with his face covered, suddenly approached the victim and stabbed him in the abdomen with a kitchen knife.
Despite being wounded, the victim managed to chase the suspect. With the help of residents and police officers who were on duty to secure the fiesta, Alfeche was quickly arrested, and the knife was recovered.
Suspect's Behavior and Motive
PMSG Yap stated that the suspect could not give a clear reason for his actions and kept ranting inside the jail. It is believed that the victim was simply at the wrong place at the wrong time due to the suspect's lack of proper judgment. “He keeps ranting and gives no clear answer. He claimed that the victim was just unlucky because he was drunk,” Yap said in an interview with Superbalita Cebu.
The investigator added that the suspect might have been jealous of the victim’s dancing skills. Despite the suspect’s claim that the victim touched him, witnesses confirmed that this allegation was false.
Outcome
Fortunately, the victim sustained only minor injuries and is now in a safe condition. The suspect will face charges of Attempted Homicide. When the suspect was presented for his mugshot, he defiantly flashed a dirty finger at the camera, reflecting his lack of remorse.
