SUV Driver in HPG Hit-and-Run Surrenders to Police

The driver of an SUV involved in a hit-and-run incident that injured a Highway Patrol Group (HPG) officer on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in San Pedro, Laguna, has surrendered to authorities, according to police reports.

HPG Director PBGen. Romel Batangan confirmed that the 21-year-old Filipino-Indian national voluntarily surrendered to the HPG on Tuesday, days after the incident that occurred on June 6. The authorities had previously tracked down the SUV allegedly used in the incident in Antipolo City based on their investigation.

Driver's Account

In his initial statement, the driver claimed he panicked after accidentally hitting the police officer while overtaking along the expressway, prompting him to leave the scene. The injured HPG officer was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.
