P20-M Dormitory Boosts Education in Sulu

The Bangsamoro government has delivered a significant boost to higher education in Sulu with the completion of a modern student housing facility. The Ministry of Public Works in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MPW-BARMM) has officially turned over a newly constructed, two-story dormitory worth 20 million pesos to the Sulu State College (SSC) in Patikul.

A Milestone for Student Welfare and Infrastructure

Engineer Ajan Ajijul, the head of the MPW's Sulu First District Engineering Office, led the turnover ceremony on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He highlighted that the project is a product of strong coordination and partnership, resulting in sustainable and high-quality infrastructure dedicated to supporting education. Ajijul described the dormitory as a powerful symbol of the region's collective commitment and hard work.

"We believe it will greatly enhance the well-being and academic experience of learners and educators in the institution," Ajijul stated, underscoring the project's primary goal.

Addressing Accommodation and Learning Needs

SSC President, Professor Charisma Ututalum, warmly received the new facility, emphasizing its critical role in providing safe, accessible, and inclusive housing for students. She pointed out that such infrastructure is fundamental in promoting better learning outcomes, student well-being, and overall academic success.

The college administration expressed profound gratitude to the BARMM Government for its continued support. They noted that the dormitory is a timely addition to the campus, expected to alleviate accommodation pressures and significantly improve the overall educational atmosphere. The facility, which includes a functional roof deck, was formally inaugurated on Saturday, December 13.

Foundations for Sustainable Development

Located within the SSC campus in Patikul, Sulu, the dormitory is slated for full utilization in the upcoming academic terms. This project is a concrete part of BARMM's broader, ongoing strategy to invest heavily in education. Regional officials view such investments as a crucial foundation for achieving lasting peace and propelling sustainable development across the Bangsamoro region.

The completion of this P20-million infrastructure project marks a tangible step forward in enhancing the quality of life for students in Sulu and strengthening the region's educational backbone.
