Cash Donations Recommended for Earthquake Victims
Dennis Pastor, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), recommended that cash donations be given and sent to earthquake victims so they can use the funds to purchase food and other necessities.
This advice comes amid donation drives and groups wanting to deliver aid to the affected area.
According to Pastor, similar to the experience during the earthquake in Cebu last year, it is not yet safe to travel to the area as aftershocks continue to be recorded.
Pastor suggested that it would be better to coordinate with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in the affected area so that those who wish to send their donations can be properly advised.
He assured that the PDRRMO is ready to augment its personnel if additional manpower is needed at ground zero.
Earlier, the Provincial Government of Cebu approved around P10 million in financial assistance for General Santos City, which also provided help when a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit Cebu.
