The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has mobilized emergency response teams and transport assets to support ongoing rescue efforts and deliver essential supplies to Glan, Sarangani, after a devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off southern Mindanao on Monday, June 8, 2026.
Coordinated Response
In a social media post on Thursday, June 11, the DENR stated that the deployment is being carried out in coordination with the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) and in partnership with Apex Mining. The initiative aims to sustain search and rescue operations, provide potable water, facilitate medical evacuations, and transport relief goods and emergency personnel to the hardest-hit town.
Damaged road networks have severely hampered access to affected communities, forcing authorities to rely on air and sea transport for emergency operations.
Air Assets Deployed
Helicopters are being utilized for priority missions, including search-and-rescue operations, delivery of clean water, medical evacuations, and other emergency services. Deployed personnel include a search, rescue, and retrieval (SRR) team from Apex Mining, as well as an OCD Water and Sanitation Team.
Sea Transport and Logistics
An auxiliary vessel with a carrying capacity of up to 100 tons has been designated for logistics missions. It will transport relief goods, operational supplies, and emergency personnel to areas accessible only by sea, ensuring aid reaches communities isolated by damaged infrastructure.
Glan was among the areas hardest hit by the earthquake, suffering severe damage to public infrastructure and isolation following the collapse of a bridge. According to the DENR's ground situation assessment, the Malapatan–Glan Highway—a key access route—is expected to be restored in about one week.
"Limited land access underscores the urgent need for air and sea transport support," the DENR said.
