The number of deaths from the powerful earthquake that struck Mindanao has increased to 45, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
Casualties and Injuries
In its situational report, the NDRRMC stated that 12 fatalities were recorded in the Davao Region, while 33 were reported in Soccsksargen. A total of 486 individuals were injured across both regions, and 17 people remain missing.
Affected Population
The disaster agency reported that 33,596 families, or 149,372 individuals, across 184 barangays in the Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) were affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake. The quake struck approximately 32 kilometers south-southwest of Maasim, Sarangani on Monday, June 8, 2026. Currently, 8,813 families, or 32,464 individuals, are staying in 57 evacuation centers throughout the affected areas.
Government Response
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided over PHP 4.8 million in assistance to the affected regions, particularly Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao, and Soccsksargen. Initial assessments by government agencies, including the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), indicate that the infrastructure sector incurred approximately PHP 15 million in damages.
Damage to Properties
The NDRRMC recorded a total of 2,994 affected houses, of which 495 were destroyed and 2,499 were damaged. Additionally, 10 landslide incidents were documented: six in Davao and four in Soccsksargen.
School Suspensions
Classes in 210 schools have been suspended following the earthquake as structural assessments of school buildings are ongoing to ensure the safety of learners and teachers.
