Over 3,800 Aftershocks in Mindanao Quake – Phivolcs

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) continues to record aftershocks from the Magnitude 7.8 Offshore Sarangani Earthquake that struck on June 8, 2026. As of 9:00 AM today, the total number of recorded aftershocks has reached 3,860, of which 966 have been plotted by experts and 64 were felt by the public.

The magnitudes of these aftershocks range from 1.2 to 6.4, indicating ongoing seismic activity beneath the sea. Despite this, government agencies remain on alert and continue monitoring to ensure the safety of residents in affected areas.

The Sarangani earthquake is one of the strongest recorded in Mindanao in recent years, causing damage to infrastructure and destruction of several roads. According to PHIVOLCS, aftershocks are expected to continue in the coming days.

Meanwhile, relief operations are ongoing in the provinces of Davao Occidental, Sarangani, and General Santos City, where damaged houses and power outages have been reported. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that over 12,000 people have been temporarily evacuated to evacuation centers.
