Search and rescue operations are ongoing following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Maasim, Sarangani on June 8, 2026. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported on Thursday, June 11, 2026, that the death toll has risen to 47.
In addition to the fatalities, 688 individuals have been injured and 31 remain missing. Most of the victims are from Region 11 and Region 12. The breakdown of casualties by province is as follows: Sarangani with 20 deaths, South Cotabato with 15, Davao Occidental with 11, and Davao del Sur with 1.
The earthquake has affected 75,324 families or over 346,000 people across Regions 9, 11, 12, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Currently, more than 16,000 individuals are temporarily staying in 32 evacuation centers.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has recorded 12,641 damaged houses, of which 2,289 are totally damaged. The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and other government agencies continue search and rescue efforts.
