Toddler Dies in Argao House Fire, Left Alone

A three-year-old child died after being trapped in a fire that destroyed their home in Sitio Sibuyan, Barangay Upper Cansuje, Argao, Cebu, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, around 8:30 a.m.

Victim Identified

The victim was identified as Niño Carillo, 3.

Investigation Findings

According to the Argao Municipal Police Station investigation led by Fire Officer 3 Michael Angelo Rodriguez, the fire reportedly started inside the house owned by Zenas Carillo, 44, the mother of the victim.

At the time of the incident, the child's parents were not home, leaving the toddler unsupervised.

Investigators believe that while alone, the child may have been playing with a lighter, which could have ignited the fire.

The flames quickly spread throughout the house, and neighbors could not control the blaze. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 9:45 a.m.
