Cebu Ready for Asean Summit 2026
Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro announced that the Province of Cebu is fully prepared for the upcoming Asean Summit 2026, scheduled for May 6-7, 2026. Speaking to reporters on April 29, 2026, Baricuatro emphasized that one of the major challenges of the event is security, especially with 11 heads of state expected to attend.
Despite the challenges, she expressed confidence in the security measures to be provided by the police and other authorities during the summit. The governor also called on the public to cooperate with the government to ensure the safety and order of the arrival of international delegations in Cebu.
Call for Public Cooperation
"We Cebuanos should be really proud about this, and I’m hoping and I’m praying that the Cebuanos will be very cooperative during the Asean season. It’s only two days; if we can extend courtesy and kindness," Baricuatro said.
She stressed the importance of the event for Cebu, as it will attract numerous tourists and visitors, driving economic growth for the province. Beyond security concerns, the summit will also discuss tourism development among member states, despite the challenges and crises faced by each country.
The Asean Summit 2026 is seen as a significant opportunity for Cebu to showcase its hospitality and boost its economy through increased tourism and international attention.
