A 42-year-old driver was trapped after his Hyundai closed van rear-ended a garbage truck on South Road Properties (SRP), opposite Il Corso in Barangay Mambaling, early Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Incident Details
The victim, identified as Ramil Rabutan, a resident of Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City, was pinned inside his vehicle. It took rescuers over an hour to extricate him from the crumpled van through coordinated efforts.
Initial Investigation
According to initial investigation, both the van driven by Rabutan and the garbage truck driven by Junnard Roble, 46, were traveling southbound. Roble reportedly stopped at a red traffic light when Rabutan's van suddenly crashed into the rear of the truck.
Roble said he was startled by the loud impact. Authorities believe Rabutan may have fallen asleep while driving.
Impact and Rescue
The front of the van was severely damaged and unrecognizable due to the force of the collision. After being freed, the victim was immediately taken to the nearest hospital for urgent medical treatment.
