Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA-7) and the Mabolo Police Station conducted a joint buy-bust operation on Thursday afternoon, April 30, 2026, resulting in the arrest of a 41-year-old man in Barangay Hipodromo, Cebu City. The suspect, identified by his alias 'Jerry,' was caught in possession of a significant quantity of suspected shabu.
Operation Details
The arrest occurred around 3:38 p.m. in the parking area of a local business. PDEA-7 Director Joel Plaza confirmed that the suspect is a resident of the same barangay. During the operation, law enforcement officers seized seven packets of suspected shabu weighing a total of 60 grams, with an estimated street value of P408,000. Additionally, the marked money used in the transaction was recovered from the suspect.
Prior Criminal Record
This is not the first time 'Jerry' has been involved with the law. Investigators revealed that he was previously arrested in 2019 for illegal drug possession during a checkpoint. He had been released on bail prior to this latest incident. PDEA-7 Information Officer Leia Alcantara stated that the agency had been monitoring the suspect for three weeks following a tip from a confidential informant, which allowed for a thorough case buildup.
Alleged Drug Distribution Network
Authorities allege that 'Jerry' was involved in the distribution of between 200 and 500 grams of shabu on a weekly basis. He reportedly obtained his supply from a local source. The seized evidence has been sent to the PDEA laboratory for confirmatory testing, while the suspect is currently detained at the PDEA facility in Barangay Lahug.
Legal Proceedings
Authorities are now preparing to file formal charges against the suspect. He will be charged with violations of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, specifically under Sections 5 (sale of dangerous drugs) and 11 (possession of dangerous drugs). The case underscores the continued efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal drug trade in the region.
