National Museum of the Philippines-Davao Announces Extended Hours for Araw ng Dabaw
The National Museum of the Philippines–Davao (NMP-Davao) has made an exciting announcement in preparation for the upcoming Araw ng Dabaw celebrations. To provide the public with greater opportunities to engage with the region's rich cultural heritage, the museum will extend its operating hours on two special days.
Extended Museum Schedule Details
NMP-Davao confirmed that from March 13 to 14, 2026 (Friday to Saturday), the museum will remain open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering free admission to all visitors. This represents a significant extension from the museum's standard operating hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
In a Facebook post dated March 9, 2026, museum officials encouraged the public: "Take this chance to rediscover the culture, history, and creativity of Davao and Mindanao." The extended hours are specifically designed to allow more time for exploring the museum's extensive collection of stories, art, and regional heritage.
Visitor Requirements and Recent Reopening
All museum visitors are reminded to bring a valid ID for presentation upon entry. This requirement helps ensure proper identification and security within the facility.
This announcement comes just months after the museum's reopening on January 11, 2026, following temporary closure due to the strong doublet earthquake that struck the Davao Region on October 10, 2025. While the building was affected by the seismic event, officials confirmed there was no structural damage requiring extensive repairs.
Visitor Statistics and Museum Background
The museum has demonstrated remarkable popularity since its inauguration. From December 2024 to October 2025, NMP-Davao welcomed approximately 300,000 visitors, averaging between 20,000 to 30,000 guests monthly.
NMP-Davao first opened to the public on December 1, 2024, establishing itself as the fourth national museum in Mindanao and earning recognition as the largest museum facility in the region. The museum occupies a prominent location at the People’s Park Compound along J. Palma Gil Street, Barangay 4A, Poblacion District, Davao City.
Exhibition Spaces and Visitor Guidelines
The museum's exhibition spaces are distributed across multiple floors:
- The first to fourth floors house NMP-Davao's permanent and rotating exhibits
- The fifth floor is dedicated to Museo Dabawenyo
To protect the valuable artifacts and collections, the museum maintains strict guidelines prohibiting beverages, water containers, or tumblers inside exhibition areas. This precaution helps prevent potential damage to irreplaceable cultural treasures.
With free admission continuing as standard policy, NMP-Davao remains committed to making cultural education accessible to all residents and visitors during this special celebration of Davao's heritage and identity.
