Bangsamoro Mufti Officially Announces Ramadan 1447 H Start Date

In a formal declaration, Sheikh Abdulrauf A. Guialani, the Bangsamoro Mufti, has confirmed that Ramadan 1447 H will commence on Thursday, February 19, 2026. This announcement follows the traditional moon-sighting process conducted by authorized teams across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and other parts of the Philippines.

Moon-Sighting Activities and Religious Guidance

The Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta' deployed its moon-sighting teams to strategic locations from afternoon until sunset on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, corresponding to 29 Sha’ban 1447 H. After careful observation, Sheikh Guialani reported that the crescent moon was not sighted, leading to the completion of 30 days for the month of Sha’ban. Consequently, fasting for Ramadan will begin on February 19, 2026.

Sheikh Guialani cited the teachings of Prophet Muhammad, which instruct Muslims to start fasting upon sighting the new moon of Ramadan. If the crescent is not visible due to cloudy skies or other conditions, the preceding month should be completed to thirty days. This practice ensures strict adherence to Islamic jurisprudence and maintains unity among the faithful.

Importance of Moon-Sighting and Community Unity

The Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta' emphasized that moon-sighting is a vital religious tradition that fosters discipline and cohesion within Muslim communities. Scholars and authorized observers conduct this activity annually to provide clear and authoritative guidance, helping to synchronize the observance of Ramadan across the Philippines.

As part of this year's events, the announcement also marks the opening of the 2026 Barmm Ramadan Qur’anic Reading and Memorization Competition. This annual initiative aims to strengthen spiritual growth and encourage deeper engagement with the Holy Qur’an during the sacred month.

Spiritual Preparation and Messages of Peace

With Ramadan approaching, religious leaders are urging the faithful to prepare spiritually through prayer, reflection, charity, and acts of compassion. Communities nationwide are encouraged to follow official announcements to ensure uniformity in fasting practices.

In his message, Sheikh Guialani extended advance greetings of Ramadan Mubarak, expressing hope that the holy month will bring peace, mercy, forgiveness, and abundant blessings to all. This call for spiritual renewal underscores the significance of Ramadan as a time for personal and communal devotion.
