The Department of Health (DOH) is urging parents and guardians to ensure their children receive complete vaccinations to protect against vaccine-preventable diseases. In a social media post, the DOH-Metro Manila Center for Health Development (MMCHD) encouraged the public to avail of free vaccines available at all local health centers.
Vaccines Are Safe and Effective
"Vaccines are safe and effective. Let's take care of the future of every child," the DOH-MMCHD stated. "Make sure your children are fully vaccinated, so go to the nearest health center." The regional health agency emphasized that vaccination not only protects individual children but also their families and the entire community by preventing illness and hospitalization.
Call to Local Government Units
The DOH-MMCHD is also calling on local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to strengthen their immunization drives. In a statement for World Immunization Week, the agency stressed the importance of immunization across all life stages, from infancy to old age. "Vaccines have saved millions of lives globally and continue to play a crucial role in preventing outbreaks and safeguarding public health," said DOH-MMCHD Director Lester Tan.
"Vaccination is an important cornerstone of primary health care. With the help of our local governments, we can expand the reach of health services and ensure that every child and family is protected against preventable diseases," he added.
Focus on Zero-Dose Children
Tan highlighted the need to prioritize "zero-dose children"—those who have not received any routine vaccines. "Having reinforced government commitment to reach 'zero-dose children' is a priority identified in global immunization efforts," he said. The DOH continues to advocate for widespread vaccination to prevent outbreaks and safeguard public health.
