DMW-7 Conducts Third Psychosocial Session for Cebu OFWs

The Department of Migrant Workers in Region VII (DMW-7) successfully organized the third phase of its Psychosocial Processing Session this year, gathering 11 participants from Cebu on November 14, 2025. The session brought together two male and nine female participants seeking support from the government agency.

Official Opening and DMW's Reintegration Framework

Representing DMW-7 Regional Director Jhoaden G. Lucero, Ms. Chazzy Rhys Bermudez, Labor and Employment Officer III from the Welfare Reintegration Services Division, formally opened the program. She emphasized the significance of DMW's reintegration framework known as Kalinga, Kaalaman, Kabuhayan (KKK), noting that this particular activity falls under the Kalinga strand.

Bermudez explained that DMW's reintegration interventions form part of a comprehensive support system that begins from the pre-departure stage of Overseas Filipino Workers and continues through their return and reintegration into their home communities.

Session Structure and Emotional Processing

The session commenced with an icebreaker activity designed to help participants feel emotionally comfortable, followed by two hours of sharing and processing personal experiences. Participants were divided into two distinct groups: one for active and returning Overseas Filipino Workers and another for their family members.

The group discussions were facilitated by Mr. Richard Balalilhe, Nurse II, and Mr. Jezer-Bon Luy, RPm, LPT, both experts from the Department of Health Regional Office VII (DOH-7). The activity aimed to assist returning and active OFWs seeking support from DMW-7 by providing them with a safe space to express their emotions and experiences.

This initiative represents the continuing commitment of DMW-7 to address the psychological well-being of Filipino migrant workers and their families, recognizing the unique challenges they face throughout their overseas employment journey and during the transition back to Philippine society.
