OFW's Remains from UAE to Arrive in PH Sunday

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has announced the scheduled repatriation of an overseas Filipino worker who tragically died in the United Arab Emirates.

Repatriation Schedule Confirmed

The remains of Mary Jill Muya are set to arrive in the Philippines from Dubai on Sunday, January 18, 2026. This confirmation came directly from Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac through an official social media post. The 44-year-old worker was found deceased inside her room in Abu Dhabi on December 31, 2025.

Secretary Cacdac stated that the repatriation process for Muya, who passed away on New Year's Eve, is firmly scheduled. Following her arrival in Manila, her remains will be transported to her home province. She is expected to arrive in her hometown of Iloilo on Monday, January 19.

Awaiting Investigation Results

The exact cause of Mary Jill Muya's death remains undetermined as authorities continue their probe. "We are awaiting the results of the police investigation of the UAE authorities," Cacdac explained, highlighting that the inquiry is still ongoing. The DMW is providing full assistance to the family during this difficult period.

Records from the migrant workers department show that Muya had been working as an OFW in the UAE since 2011, indicating over a decade of service abroad. Her sudden death has underscored the vulnerabilities faced by Filipino workers overseas.

Government Support for OFW Families

The swift action by the DMW in coordinating the repatriation reflects the government's commitment to assisting OFWs and their families in times of crisis. The department typically handles several key steps in such cases:

  • Coordination with foreign authorities and embassies.
  • Logistical support for the repatriation of remains.
  • Providing assistance and updates to the grieving family.
  • Ensuring the dignified return of the deceased worker.

The community in Iloilo is preparing to receive and honor Mary Jill Muya, whose life and contributions as an overseas worker will be remembered by her loved ones and the nation she supported through her labor.
