Background of the Outbreak

The 38 Filipino crew members were aboard the MV Hondius when a hantavirus outbreak was declared. Hantavirus is a serious disease that can be transmitted through contact with rodents or their droppings. The crew was placed under quarantine in the Netherlands until June 18 before being allowed to return home.

The timely repatriation highlights the DMW's commitment to the welfare of overseas Filipino workers, ensuring their safety and well-being in challenging situations.
