A healthcare worker from Davao City and her unborn baby have tragically died following a two-vehicle collision in Northern Ireland. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed the incident, which occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2025.
A Tragic Loss for the Filipino Community
The victim has been identified as Cathrene Kith Quiñones Singco, a nurse in her 30s originally from Davao. According to authorities, she was a backseat passenger during the crash on Moira Road near Nutts Corner, County Antrim, which happened at approximately 2 p.m.. She later succumbed to her injuries in a hospital.
In a solemn statement, Detective Inspector Stewart from the PSNI's Collision Investigation Unit revealed the double tragedy. “We can also confirm that, sadly, Cathrene was pregnant and her baby also died as a result of the collision. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time,” the officer said.
Husband in Critical Condition, A Life Full of Hope
The crash involved eight individuals who were all taken to the hospital. Singco's husband remains in critical condition, adding another layer of anguish to the devastating event.
The couple's social media accounts painted a picture of a joyful life filled with love and anticipation. Just hours before the accident, Cathrene had reshared a nostalgic post celebrating their fifth wedding anniversary on January 10. The post featured a video of them dancing in the snow at the Jungfraujoch railway station in Switzerland and was captioned, “Cheers to 50 years of love as husband and wife.”
Their New Year's Day video further highlighted a year of happiness, including moments in Paris, cycling in Majorca, and the poignant clip of their first baby scan.
From Davao to Belfast: A Journey Cut Short
Cathrene Singco was an alumna of Brokenshire College in Davao City, where she studied nursing. Before moving to Belfast, Northern Ireland, she had worked at the Metro Davao Medical and Research Center, Inc.
