DMW VII Joins Mental Health Committee for OFW Support

The Department of Migrant Workers Regional Office VII in Cebu City has significantly bolstered its commitment to the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers and their families by officially joining the Regional Mental Health Committee in Central Visayas. This membership was confirmed after DMW RO-VII participated in a committee meeting where the office pledged to integrate mental health advocacy into its programs and services for OFWs.

Expanding Mental Health Support for Migrant Workers

The primary goal of this collaboration is to broaden support for the mental well-being of migrant workers serving in various countries worldwide. According to Regional Director Joaden G. Lucero, this represents a major step forward in strengthening the office's role as a home or close refuge for OFWs who require assistance and guidance. He further emphasized that partnering with the committee will facilitate stronger coordination among different government agencies and partner organizations.

Part of Broader Health Protection Efforts

This initiative forms part of the agency's larger efforts to enhance health protection for OFWs under the leadership of Hans Leo Cacdac. During a recent ceremony, which also included Teodoro Herbosa, the unity among government agencies was reinforced to protect the health, particularly the mental health, of Filipinos working abroad.

The DMW anticipates that through this collaboration, mental health and life support services will become more accessible to OFWs and their families, helping to improve their psychological and living conditions. This move underscores a growing recognition of the unique challenges faced by migrant workers and aims to provide comprehensive care beyond just employment concerns.
