MANILA. Nearly 5,500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were repatriated have successfully found employment in the Philippines, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW). Data from the DMW shows that 5,480 repatriated OFWs have been hired by private firms and government agencies through the National Reintegration Network.
Program Goals
“One of the main goals of the program is to help OFWs find jobs in the country,” the DMW stated. The department reported that 2,467 repatriated OFWs directly benefited from its employment facilitation activities. Additionally, the DMW referred 1,805 OFWs to the Department of Labor and Employment, 656 to the Department of Tourism, 383 to the Department of Health, 151 to the Department of Public Works and Highways, and 18 to the Department of Education.
Mass Repatriation from Middle East
In a related development, the DMW announced that over 10,400 OFWs and their dependents have been safely repatriated from the Middle East since the outbreak of hostilities in the region. As of June 17, a total of 10,446 individuals have returned home following the war between the United States and Iran. This includes 8,281 OFWs, 1,803 dependents, and 362 stranded Filipinos who received government assistance.
The DMW affirmed its commitment to continue helping OFWs who wish to leave the Middle East. “The government will continue to take immediate action for the safety of overseas Filipino workers and their families from the Middle East,” the department said.
