Philippine Government Continues OFW Repatriation Amid Middle East Tensions

The Philippine government, through Malacañang, has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safe repatriation of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who wish to return home amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East. This effort comes despite President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s expressed concerns over the safety of OFWs potentially caught in conflict zones during their travels.

Recent Repatriation Efforts and Flight Details

According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, based on the latest report from the Department of Migrant Workers, a group of 16 OFWs recently traveled from Tel Aviv to Eilat, crossing the Taba border into Egypt. These individuals are scheduled to board a flight from Cairo to Muscat, with a subsequent leg to Manila on March 11.

In a separate operation, 20 OFWs in Dubai, accompanied by 9 dependents, are set to travel from Dubai to Oman via the Khatmat-Milaha border in northern Oman. From the Omani border, they will proceed to Muscat and then board a flight to Manila on March 10.

Upcoming Flight Arrangements and Government Assurance

Castro also highlighted additional repatriation plans, including commercial flight bookings with Emirates Airlines from Dubai and a chartered flight from Riyadh to the Philippines, potentially departing on March 14. The government is coordinating these efforts to ensure a smooth and secure return for all affected OFWs.

The ongoing repatriation initiative underscores the Philippine government's proactive approach to safeguarding its citizens abroad, particularly in volatile regions like the Middle East. As tensions persist, authorities remain vigilant in monitoring the situation and providing necessary support to OFWs seeking to return home.
