OWWA Delivers Assistance to Families of M/V Devon Bay Fatalities; Search for Missing Crew Members Ongoing

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has extended crucial support to the families of the victims involved in the recent M/V Devon Bay maritime incident, while search efforts continue for the four missing seafarers. According to Deputy Administrator Rossane Bahia-Catapang, the agency has already provided financial aid to the affected overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their kin, particularly those who lost loved ones in the tragedy.

Details of the Incident and Rescue Operations

The M/V Devon Bay, a vessel with a crew of 21 Filipino seafarers, sank near the Scarborough Shoal in the West Philippine Sea. Of the total crew members, 15 were successfully rescued but sustained injuries, while two fatalities were confirmed. The survivors arrived in Manila on January 26 and were welcomed at Pier 13, where they received immediate assistance.

Collaborative Support Efforts for Survivors and Families

OWWA, in coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and various manning agencies, is actively helping the survivors return to their respective provinces. The agency has not only offered financial assistance but also ensured that the families of the deceased receive necessary support during this difficult time. Deputy Administrator Bahia-Catapang emphasized that the survivors have also received additional aid from DMW and the involved manning agencies.
