Davao High School Bomb Threat Declared False After Police Investigation
A bomb threat reported at Cabantian National High School in Davao City on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, has been confirmed as false by authorities. The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) conducted a thorough inspection of the campus and found no explosive devices, declaring the area safe for students and staff.
Student Alert Triggers Police Response
According to DCPO spokesperson Captain Hazel Tuazon, the alert originated from a Grade 7 student who reported to her teacher about a message received on Tuesday evening. The message claimed that a bomb had been placed inside the school premises. The teacher acted promptly by notifying the authorities, leading to an immediate police deployment.
Police units, including Explosives and K-9 teams, were dispatched to secure and sweep the campus. After completing their inspection, officials confirmed that no threats were present, allowing normal activities to resume.
First Bomb Threat of the Year in Davao City
Captain Tuazon noted during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps that this incident marks the first bomb threat report recorded in the city for 2026. She emphasized the importance of public cooperation during such emergencies, urging everyone to remain calm and follow instructions from responding officers to prevent potential stampedes or injuries.
The DCPO, in coordination with the city government, has been actively conducting social media campaigns to educate the public about the severe penalties associated with sending bomb threats. These penalties can include substantial fines and possible imprisonment, highlighting the legal consequences of such actions.
Rising Concerns Over False Information
Tuazon expressed growing concern over the increasing number of bomb-threat posts online, particularly among students. She called on parents to educate their children about the dangers and consequences of spreading false information, which can cause widespread panic and endanger lives.
"The police take every bomb threat seriously and will not disregard any report, even if many turn out to be false," Tuazon stated. "At the same time, we appeal to everyone not to share false information that could cause panic or endanger lives."
Handling Minors and Ensuring Public Safety
Regarding minors involved in such incidents, the DCPO clarified that while students may not face criminal liability due to their age, appropriate interventions will be enforced. Those responsible will be referred to school authorities, social workers, and city offices to ensure proper guidance and prevent repeat offenses.
The DCPO reiterated its unwavering commitment to public safety and urged the community to act responsibly. By avoiding the spread of false information, unnecessary fear, disruption, and harm can be prevented, maintaining a secure environment for all residents.
