Mandaue City Police Mobilize Over 500 Personnel for ASEAN Summit Security Operations
The Mandaue City Police Office has initiated comprehensive security preparations for the forthcoming ASEAN Leaders' Summit, with plans to deploy more than 500 officers across strategic locations in anticipation of a significant influx of foreign delegates and visitors. Police Colonel Cirilo Acosta Jr., director of the Mandaue City Police Office, confirmed that while no official schedule or designated venue in Mandaue City has been announced, the police force is already on high alert and has finalized its security strategies.
Proactive Security Planning Amidst Uncertain Schedule
"So far, we have not received any schedule from headquarters regarding activities in Mandaue City for the ASEAN Leaders' Summit, but we are already prepared, especially for ceremonial routes," Acosta stated. He emphasized that police officials have recently conducted planning conferences to evaluate preparations and ensure that all security measures are firmly in place before the international event commences.
Acosta highlighted that the police force anticipates visits from delegates, staff members, and even family members accompanying official entourages to various areas in Mandaue City. This expectation has prompted authorities to enhance security not only on major thoroughfares but also in hotels where guests are likely to stay.
Enhanced Security Measures for Hotels and Roads
"We are expecting an influx of foreigners, staff, and relatives joining the delegation, so we are making preparations, especially in our hotels where security personnel will be stationed," he explained. To safeguard the city, the Mandaue City Police Office intends to deploy over 500 officers specifically for road and hotel security duties.
Additionally, another 500 personnel have been dispatched to provide assistance in Lapu-Lapu City, where the majority of summit-related activities are projected to occur. Acosta noted that the security deployment could commence one to two weeks prior to the summit, depending on the schedule established by the organizing committee.
Readiness for Large-Scale International Event
Despite the absence of an officially announced venue in Mandaue City, authorities are diligently ensuring that the city is fully equipped to meet the extensive security demands of the summit. The ASEAN Leaders' Summit is set to convene delegates from across Southeast Asia, necessitating elevated security operations throughout key cities in Cebu.
