Authorities apprehended a woman carrying a live grenade and a loaded firearm inside a major retail store in Mandaue City on Friday afternoon, December 5, 2025.
Security Inspection Uncovers Weapons
The incident unfolded at approximately 2:35 PM at a store located on Hernan Cortes Street in Barangay Tipolo. According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7, the suspect, identified as alias Grace, 33, a resident of Bali Residences in Lapu-Lapu City, entered the establishment.
Two security personnel, Rodel Catane and Stanley Barrios Jr., conducted a routine inspection of her sling bag. During the check, they discovered a .45 caliber pistol and a grenade, prompting immediate action.
Swift Police Response and Evidence
Store management quickly contacted the Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the Police Regional Office 7 to secure and take custody of the dangerous explosive device and the firearm.
Personnel from CIDG 7 responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody. Confiscated from her were the following items:
- One live grenade
- One .45 caliber pistol
- One magazine loaded with seven rounds of ammunition
- The sling bag used to conceal the items
Charges Filed Following Investigation
The suspect was subsequently brought to the CIDG 7 office for processing and the filing of appropriate criminal charges. The motive for carrying the weapons into a public commercial space remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the suspect's intent.
