Police in Danao City, Cebu, successfully conducted an anti-illegal gambling operation on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in illegal cockfighting.
Sunday Afternoon Raid in Sityo Taboc
The operation unfolded at approximately 2:05 PM on January 18, 2026, in Sityo Taboc, Barangay Guinacot, Danao City. The raid was led by Lt. Col. Henrix Bancoleta, the chief of the Danao City Police Station. Authorities acted swiftly on a tip-off received via a telephone call from a concerned female citizen, who reported intense noise from a suspected cockfight in the area.
Suspects Apprehended and Evidence Seized
Upon the arrival of police forces, the individuals at the scene reportedly scrambled to flee. However, four men, described as running slowly, were caught and subsequently handcuffed. The apprehended suspects were identified by their aliases: Albert, 39; Kardo, 63; Erwin, 41; and Rito, 63. All are residents of Danao City.
Law enforcement officers confiscated substantial evidence from the scene, including:
- Two gamecocks (live bets)
- P650 in cash, believed to be proceeds from the illegal activity
- Two gaffs or knives ("buwang") used in cockfighting
Legal Consequences and Ongoing Enforcement
The four individuals are now facing formal charges for violating Presidential Decree No. 1602, the law that penalizes illegal gambling, which includes unauthorized cockfighting. This decree imposes strict penalties on organizers, financiers, and participants of such activities.
This operation underscores the continued efforts of the Danao City Police to curb illegal gambling within their jurisdiction. It also highlights the role of community vigilance, as the raid was initiated based on a citizen's report.
