Authorities in Bohol have apprehended a garbage collector allegedly involved in a large-scale drug trade following a successful buy-bust operation in Tagbilaran City.
Massive Drug Haul in Tiptip Barangay
On Wednesday evening, January 14, 2026, a joint operat ion led by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Bohol Provincial Office, in coordination with the Tagbilaran City Police and the Bohol Maritime Police, resulted in a significant drug bust. The operation, which commenced at 7:01 PM, targeted a suspect known by the alias "Ondoy," a 48-year-old resident and garbage collector of Barangay Tiptip.
During the entrapment, agents confiscated from Ondoy's possession 16 packets of suspected shabu weighing approximately 615 grams. Based on the current market value, the illegal drugs have an estimated street value of a staggering P4.1 million. Also seized were a cellphone and a motorcycle, which are believed to have been used in his illicit activities.
New but Notorious Drug Peddler
According to PDEA 7 Director Joel Plaza, intelligence reports indicated that the suspect, despite being relatively new to the drug trade, had quickly gained notoriety in his area. He was reportedly capable of selling up to one kilogram of shabu per month.
The operation was launched after PDEA received a tip from a concerned citizen regarding Ondoy's alleged illegal drug business. This prompted agents to place the suspect under surveillance. Once the surveillance reports confirmed the illegal activity, the buy-bust operation was immediately planned and executed.
Charges Under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act
The suspect is now detained and facing serious legal consequences. PDEA 7 is preparing charges for violations of Section 5 (Sale) and Section 11 (Possession) under Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of Philippine law enforcement agencies to combat the drug trade at the community level, demonstrating that operations continue to target both high-profile and local distributors.
