Davao Broadcaster Jun Digamon Surrenders After Safe Spaces Act Conviction
Broadcaster Jun Digamon surrenders after conviction

In a significant legal development, broadcaster Jun Digamon turned himself in to authorities on Monday, January 19, 2026. This action followed his recent conviction for violating the Republic Act No. 11313, commonly known as the Safe Spaces Act.

The Arrest and Public Reaction

Personnel from the National Bureau of Investigation's Davao Region office (NBI-Davao) took Digamon into custody at his workplace, the 93.1 Brigada News FM station. The arrest procedure was broadcast live on the station's official social media channels, drawing significant public attention.

Digamon, who serves as the station manager and hosts a morning program, later posted photos on Facebook showing himself in handcuffs. The now-deleted post included the caption: "#Championnnnn Lord God Salamat kaayo sa Journey sa akong Kinabuhi...God bless." He expressed gratitude for his life's journey in the message.

Background of the Case and Legal Proceedings

The legal complaint was initiated by a former public attorney. It centered on accusations of gender-based online sexual harassment connected to posts made by Digamon on his social media accounts.

In an official statement, Brigada News FM's Corporate Legal Counsel, Attorney Glenda Narcilla-Yuson, stated that the network respects the court's ruling. She also highlighted that Digamon retains the right to appeal the decision.

"Brigada News FM remains committed to responsible journalism, respect for the law, and continued service to the public, especially the marginalized sectors whose concerns deserve to be heard with fairness, dignity, and care," the station affirmed. They called on the public to allow the legal process to proceed without interference.

A History of Legal Challenges

This is not Digamon's first encounter with the law under the Safe Spaces Act. He was previously arrested in 2024 on similar charges but was released after posting a P24,000 bail on the same day. He returned to his broadcasting duties the following day.

The broadcaster's legal history extends further back. During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, he was arrested for cyber libel after posting critical comments about a medical center in Digos City on Facebook. Reports also indicate he faces additional pending cyber libel cases filed by Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur Mayor Jose Nelson "Tata" Sala.

Following his surrender, Digamon made a brief social media post thanking the NBI-Davao personnel for their professional handling of the process.

Understanding the Safe Spaces Act

The conviction stems from Section 12 of R.A. No. 11313, which defines gender-based online sexual harassment. The law specifies it includes acts that use information and communications technology to terrorize and intimidate victims. This encompasses:

  • Physical, psychological, or emotional threats.
  • Unwanted sexual, misogynistic, transphobic, homophobic, or sexist remarks and comments online.

These violations can occur in public posts or through private messages, holding perpetrators accountable for creating hostile online environments.
