Fr. Flavie Denies Kickback Allegations from Ex-Marines

A Catholic priest and human rights activist, Fr. Flaviano Villanueva, has strongly denied allegations made by self-proclaimed former soldiers that he received kickbacks from flood control projects. The accusations were presented during a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing held on Thursday, June 4.

Allegations and Denials

In their testimony, the ex-Marines claimed that Fr. Villanueva received an envelope containing cash near a church on Mindanao Avenue in Quezon City. They also alleged that he received a briefcase filled with money sent to an address identified as "33 Clemente." Fr. Villanueva, popularly known as Fr. Flavie, categorically rejected these claims, calling them fabricated and malicious.

Background of Fr. Flavie

Fr. Flavie has been a vocal critic of former President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs. He was also among those who filed a plunder complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte in December 2025. His activism has made him a target of various attacks, which his supporters believe are politically motivated.

Legal Action Underway

According to Villanueva's camp, they are already preparing legal action against the former soldiers who made the accusations. They assert that the allegations are part of a smear campaign to discredit the priest's work and reputation. The Senate hearing continues as the committee investigates the matter further.
