Government Official Nabbed in Major Drug Operation
In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in Davao Region, a government official classified as a high-value target was apprehended during a joint anti-drug operation on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Davao (PDEA-Davao) and the Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office conducted the successful buy-bust operation in Purok 6, Barangay Poblacion, Hagonoy, Davao del Sur.
Details of the Arrest and Evidence Seized
Authorities identified the suspect as a 39-year-old male government employee known by the alias "Ren-ren." The married resident of the barangay had been under intense surveillance for his alleged involvement in the province's illegal drug trade. During the carefully planned entrapment operation, law enforcement agents seized three sachets of suspected shabu weighing approximately 15 grams, with an estimated street value of P102,000.
The operation followed validated intelligence reports that confirmed the official's illegal activities. A video posted by local content creator Michael Lape captured the suspect attempting to deny ownership of the confiscated drugs, but authorities proceeded with the arrest after completing all necessary operational protocols.
Consequences and Official Statements
Both PDEA-Davao and the Davao del Sur Police strongly condemned the involvement of any government employee in illegal drug activities. They emphasized that public officials must uphold the highest standards of integrity and comply with the law. The arrest of a public official underscores the agency's continuing campaign to cleanse government ranks of individuals involved in narcotics.
The suspect is currently detained at PDEA-Davao's facility and faces serious charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The charges specifically include sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution, transportation, and possession of dangerous drugs.
Penalties under this law range from life imprisonment to death and fines ranging from P500,000 to P10 million, depending on the quantity of drugs seized. A conviction would also permanently bar the official from holding any public office under the 1987 Constitution and could trigger additional administrative sanctions under civil service and anti-graft laws, effectively ending his eligibility to serve in any government position.
