Former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV strongly denied the statement of Davao Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has already issued an arrest warrant. According to Trillanes, no warrant has been issued against anyone, and the information remains mere speculation.
Rep. Pulong Duterte claimed that a “highly reliable source” told him that a warrant had been issued against several personalities, including Senator Christopher “Bong” Go. However, Trillanes promptly refuted this, along with government agencies such as the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP), which stated that they have not received any official communication from the ICC.
Based on the latest ICC report, the investigation into the war on drugs during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte is still ongoing, but no arrest warrant has been issued. According to Human Rights Watch data, an estimated 6,000 people were killed in anti-drug operations from 2016 to 2022, making the Philippines the focus of the ICC investigation.
Trillanes insisted that official data and communication from the ICC should be the basis for any information to avoid misinformation that could cause public confusion. He added that any ICC action will go through the proper process and should not be preempted by speculation.
