A suspected armed man was killed after reportedly engaging in a shootout with police who responded to an alarm at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, in Sitio Tag-ubi 2, Barangay Paril, a mountainous area of Cebu City.
The suspect was identified as Roy Olivio, of legal age, a resident of the same area.
Police Captain Leonyl Iren, chief of Adlaon Police Station 13, said they received complaints from neighbors that the suspect frequently fired his weapon. Officers immediately proceeded to the location and upon arrival, they knocked on Olivio's door. However, he suddenly came out and fired his gun at them.
In response, the authorities returned fire, hitting Olivio in the leg and body. He was rushed to Cebu City Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.
One of the suspect's neighbors revealed during the investigation that Roy had previously threatened that he would not be taken alive. He allegedly knew he would be arrested due to complaints against him involving firearms.
Captain Iren stated that Olivio had been arrested in 2013 for violating the Comelec gun ban and in 2015 for illegal drugs. Aside from his involvement in illegal drugs, he was also reportedly selling firearms.
“In our background check on him, he was arrested in 2013 for Comelec gun ban and in 2015 for drug-related offenses. So we further validated that he was involved in drugs, according to an informant there. He also deals with firearms,” Iren said.
Members of the Scene of the Crime Operation (Soco) recovered a caliber .45 firearm used by the suspect in the shootout.
