Major Blow to Cigarette Smuggling in Southern Philippines

The Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC) has delivered a significant blow to smuggling operations in southern Philippines, intercepting five watercraft loaded with contraband cigarettes valued at approximately P174.2 million during intensive maritime patrols.

Five-Day Intelligence-Driven Operations

According to Rear Admiral Constancio Arturo Reyes Jr., WMNC commander, the successful interdictions resulted from sustained maritime patrol and intelligence-driven operations conducted from November 13 to 17, 2025. The operations spanned multiple municipalities in Sulu province, including Tapul, Banguingui, Lugus, and Jolo.

The naval units apprehended 35 crew members during the five-day crackdown and seized a massive quantity of smuggled cigarettes totaling 2,874 master cases along with additional reams of cigarettes.

The naval command provided specific details about each intercepted vessel and their illicit cargo:

The interception of these substantial shipments represents a major achievement in the ongoing campaign against illicit trade in the region.
