Philippine Army Holds Live-Fire Exercises in Maguindanao

The Philippine Army has taken significant steps to enhance its defensive capabilities with a major training exercise in Mindanao. The 601st Infantry Brigade (601Bde) successfully conducted live-fire drills, demonstrating its commitment to national security.

Major Training Exercise Held in Maguindanao del Sur

On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, soldiers from the 601st Infantry Brigade participated in extensive live-fire exercises at Tapat Hill in Meta village, Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur. This training served as the culminating activity of the External Security Operations Training program.

Brigadier General Edgar Catu, commander of the 601Bde, emphasized the importance of these exercises for maintaining troop readiness. "Strengthening preparedness for external threats is necessary because no one knows when the call to duty will come," Catu stated during the event.

Advanced Weaponry and Safety Measures

During the intensive training session, military personnel utilized various mortar systems including:

  • 61-millimeter mortars
  • 81-millimeter mortars
  • 105-millimeter howitzers

The soldiers demonstrated exceptional professionalism and precision in operating these weapons systems. General Catu assured that all necessary safety precautions were implemented, with residents of Datu Unsay, Shariff Aguak, Datu Hoffer, Ampatuan, and Datu Saudi Ampatuan properly informed about the exercises to prevent concerns and ensure public safety.

No civilians were present in the designated target areas when the training commenced, according to military officials.

Leadership Praise and Future Preparedness

Major General Jose Vladimir Cagara, commander of the 6th Infantry Division, expressed strong support for the successful training activity. "I greatly admire the dedication shown by the soldiers in strengthening our security capabilities," Cagara remarked.

He further emphasized that such training not only enhances troop capabilities but also demonstrates the military's unwavering commitment to national defense. "We will continue to promote a higher level of readiness to ensure that the entire 6th Infantry Division is always prepared to respond to any challenge, whether internal or external," Cagara added.

The exercises significantly improved the soldiers' coordination, discipline, and operational skills, ensuring they remain prepared for any potential external threats that could affect Philippine national security.
