PNP Chief Orders Counter-Intelligence Boost vs Espionage

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered the reinforcement of counter-intelligence operations across all police units following reports of espionage targeting officials holding sensitive government information.

Countering Chinese Recruitment Efforts

According to Nartatez, the move is part of efforts to thwart alleged recruitment by Chinese agents using online job platforms to target employees in the defense, foreign affairs, and intelligence sectors.

"By tightening our coordination with both local and international security agencies, and by maximizing our advanced counter-intelligence capabilities, we are shutting down these covert recruitment channels," the PNP chief stated.

The directive came after a report from the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The PNP is collaborating with its Anti-Cybercrime Group and foreign experts to monitor covert online recruitment activities.
