The Philippine National Police (PNP) is mobilizing a massive force to ensure the safety of millions of Filipinos traveling for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Acting PNP chief, Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., has issued orders for enhanced security protocols and a significant increase in police presence across the country's major transportation hubs.
Nationwide Security Boost for Holiday Exodus
In a decisive move, over 100,000 police personnel will be deployed nationwide to secure the holiday period. This figure marks a substantial increase from the 60,000 officers deployed for the same purpose last year, ensuring broader coverage of critical areas.
The order comes as the annual holiday exodus begins, with countless individuals journeying to their home provinces. Nartatez has directed all local police units to strategically plan and adjust their personnel deployment in ports, bus terminals, airports, and other major transport centers.
"I have directed our local police units to strategize the deployment of personnel in ports and terminals to increase police presence in these public areas," Nartatez stated. He emphasized that security measures are being dynamically adjusted based on real-time ground situations to manage the surge in passenger volume.
Following Presidential Directive for Public Safety
This large-scale security operation is being implemented in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., as conveyed through the guidance of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla. The core objectives are clear:
- Strengthen police visibility during the holiday season.
- Maintain peace and order in crowded public spaces.
- Ensure the safety and security of the commuting public.
Nartatez highlighted that police forces are already monitoring noticeable increases in crowds at terminals and on roads leading to these hubs, with resources being directed accordingly.
A Call for Public Cooperation and Vigilance
While the PNP commits to round-the-clock presence, the acting chief also called upon the public to contribute to the collective effort. He reminded travelers to observe all rules and regulations and to cooperate fully with authorities to prevent any untoward incidents.
"Our police personnel will be on the ground 24/7 not only to ensure their safe travel but also to secure business and residential areas during the entire Christmas season," Nartatez assured.
He concluded with an appeal to citizens: "And we ask our kababayan to do their share in this effort by taking safety measures for themselves and immediately inform your Philippine National Police of any peace and order-related concerns." The message underscores a shared responsibility between law enforcement and the community for a peaceful and secure holiday period.
