The Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) has ramped up its security measures for the Christmas season, launching comprehensive operations under the Ligtas Paskuhan 2025 campaign. The initiative aims to ensure safe and orderly holiday celebrations across the region as crowds swell in key public areas.
Enhanced Police Visibility and Coordination
Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, the PRO 6 regional director, has directed all provincial and city police offices to heighten their presence. This involves expanding visibility operations, deploying more personnel, and strengthening collaboration with local government units (LGUs), volunteer groups, force multipliers, and event organizers.
"Christmas is one of the most anticipated seasons in the region. We assure the public that PRO 6 is prepared to secure all holiday-related activities so families can celebrate safely," stated Ligan. He emphasized that community safety is a shared responsibility, adding, "With public support, we can ensure a peaceful and incident-free Paskuhan 2025."
Strategic Deployment in Key Areas
The security plan focuses on areas with high public convergence. Police presence will be significantly increased in churches, public plazas, bus terminals, ports, airports, and major commercial centers. To maximize coverage, mobile and foot patrols will be active in high-traffic zones, while Police Assistance Desks will be established in strategic locations to assist the public and deter crime.
Special attention will be given to events that draw large crowds, such as night markets, Christmas bazaars, Simbang Gabi masses, concerts, and light-up ceremonies. The regional police command will also maintain close monitoring in crime-prone areas, particularly during peak shopping and travel hours throughout December.
Integrated Efforts and Public Vigilance
Beyond patrols, PRO 6 will intensify anti-criminality initiatives and public awareness campaigns. These efforts remind communities to stay vigilant against common holiday threats like theft, scams, and the use of prohibited firecrackers.
The operation will be supported by the regional police's specialized units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit, the Regional Maritime Unit, the Traffic Management Unit, and the Tourist Police. This integrated approach ensures security coverage across all domains in Western Visayas.
PRO 6 encourages the public to be active partners in safety. Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities or persons immediately through the national emergency hotline 911, the regional hotline, or by contacting the nearest police station. The command assures that all units are on heightened alert, fully equipped, and committed to safeguarding the Christmas celebrations of every family in the region.
